Our Jack Man is ONE!!! We had his party on his actual birthday, last Saturday, January 29th.
Let me start by saying this party was F-U-N to plan!! I thought and thought for a long time about a cute theme. After Christmas, we were shopping at Kohl's and they had The Very Hungry Caterpillar book and stuffed animal. Jack carried the caterpillar around while we shopped.
For a couple days after that, I kept searching the Internet for a cute first birthday theme and then it totally hit me. "Let's have a Very Hungry Caterpillar party!" It's all primary colors, fun, festive, and all throughout the book, it says "But, he was still hungry..." (which fits our Jackster perfectly... the boy can put away some food!!)
After that, the party planning just took off and I had a blast with all of it.
The night before the party, we stayed at Mimi and Papa's house. Our family friends, Mandy and Vicki helped make stuff and decorate until about midnight. We had a blast!

Mandy painted this!! It looks EXACTLY like the caterpillar from the story.
Jack woke up the morning of his birthday with crazy bed head and a smile on his face. He had breakfast and watched cartoons while we finished up a few things.
Seriously, WHAT are we going to do with that hair?!?!
As usual, we were all rushing around the hour before the party started.
Jack took a nice nap and woke up ready to party!
We got him dressed and managed to all be ready when friends and family arrived.
My favorite part of the party was that most of it was handmade. I used A LOT of card stock, A LOT of scrapbook paper and A LOT of printer ink. And, I cut for hours... I traced the letters and circles for Jack's banner and cut them over the course of three nights while watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix.
So, if you don't know the story, these pictures might be confusing.
Let me give you the rundown. :)
There's this caterpillar that hatches one day and starts to look for some food. Each day, he eats more and more food.
Ok, so basically the food is the moral of the story. ha!
But, at the end, he turns into a butterfly. Did anyone predict that ending?? :)
The kiddos made tissue paper butterflies in the playroom to take home with them.
After everyone munched, we opened presents and let me tell you, Jack scored BIG!! He got so many cute toys and outfits. What we were thinking having babies in the months sandwiching Christmas, I'll never know!! It's constant reorganization!!
Next up was cake.
The caterpillar cake was a hit! We just ordered green cupcakes and then I made the red cake for the caterpillar's head. Cake decorating is NOT my specialty!!
We hot glued gumballs along the bottom to look like the polka dots on the pages of the book.
Jack LOVED the cake!!
The cupcakes were yummy, too!!
Kate had fun with these big suckers that we used as decorations. We gave some out to the kiddos and they were about as big as the kids' heads!
The aftermath of the cake on Jack's shirt! Not too shabby.
It was such a great day!! Obviously, Jack will never remember it, but we had a blast putting it all together.
Can't believe my baby is one. He's such a little love bug, and we are just crazy about him!!
Oh, and here's the cheesy party favors. Gummy worms in a bag with a note: Thanks for "inching along" to my party. Get it?? Cheesy, I know.
Happy Birthday, my sweet boy!
