First Annual Pumpkin Carving Party

My best friend, Megan, and I planned a pumpkin carving party this year and it was by far, my favorite thing we did this Halloween!

Megan threw the idea out there a couple months back and then thought the perfect place to have it would be at her in law's property that they own about 30 minutes outside of Union. It was THE perfect place to throw a pumpkin carving party!

Meg and I worked hard on this party and it was so fun to see it all come together. Everyone had a blast and agreed it needed to be an annual thing.

The pictures don't even do it justice... it was just SO much fun!!

On Friday before the party, we all went out there to drop some stuff off and prepare a little bit. We rode four wheelers and let the kids run all over the place.

They have a big old farmhouse on the property, so we were able to start getting some stuff ready and planned on spending the night there.

It was the last night of the World Series, and they didn't get that channel out there, so we drove back home in time for the game, had some friends over to watch it, screamed like crazy people when we won, and then drove back out to the farm to spend the night. We wanted to have time in the morning to ride four wheelers and get everything ready for the party.

We were up early, the party didn't start until 3 and we were still crunched for time. Parties are hard work!

We had lots of appetizers, people visited with each other, some rode four wheelers or took walks around the lake, and the kids all played together. We had little pumpkins for the kids to decorate and place mats for them to color.

Then, we all started carving pumpkins and it was just like Megan and I pictured it. Everyone was at the long table, laughing, digging out pumpkin goo, drawing fun faces on pumpkins to carve. As much as I love Halloween, I'm not a huge fan of carving pumpkins, but this was FUN!

Everyone put their pumpkins on the porch when they were finished and we lit them up after it got dark.

After carving pumpkins, Mark and Greg had rigged up a hayride for the bigger kids.

People started roasting hotdogs and we all sat by the fire after dark. We made s'mores, kids got tired, good conversation was had. We had little Halloween cups filled with goodies for each kid.

Seriously, as goofy as it sounds, thinking back on this party, it just gives me a warm feeling. It was just so fun watching all the kids have so much fun, as well as all the adults... it was awesome.

Definitely a tradition now!

Rombach's Pumpkin Patch

Rombach's has become a tradition for us. We have gone the past three years. Last year, we went twice... once with family and once with friends.

We went the Monday before Halloween with Mimi, Uncle Scott, Martha, Maddie, Lily,Uncle Brad, and Vicky. The weather was awesome and it's not very busy on the weeknights, so it was perfect for the kids to run wild.

Preschool Halloween Party

Kate had her preschool party the Wednesday before Halloween . She didn't want to wear her actual Halloween costume, so we re-used her Minnie Mouse costume from last year.

My plan time was during her party, so I was able to go to her classroom for it.

The kids were all so cute in their costumes.

After their snacks, they got to go trick or treating to the other preschool classes and the office.

I was so glad that she was there for the party (since she only goes two days out of the week!).

That night, we also went to the member's Halloween party at The Magic House. It was a BUSY day, but so much fun!

Halloween 2011

LL3N8811.jpg

Halloween is my favorite holiday! Well, right behind Christmas. I love the kids dressing up, the decorations, the camaraderie in the neighborhood, and the fact that it is smack dab in the middle of fall. Seriously, walking through Hobby Lobby, the Halloween decorations get me more excited than the Christmas stuff.

Anyway... enough about my love for Halloween.

This year, we started looking at Halloween costumes on Google Images back in September. Kate saw a zookeeper costume that she liked and was set on it. I thought it would be easy to find her a khaki dress or skirt and shirt to wear, but no dice. The costume was $30, which is way more than I want to pay for a costume for one night. So, I found it used on ebay for $5! Trouble was , the previous family had written the kid's name on one pocket and "zookeeper" on the other pocket in permanent marker. Not appealing. So, I used some khaki fabric, a lion patch, and a leopard print handkerchief to get it up to par. ha!

We found the hat at a resale shop for like a buck awhile back, knowing Kate was going to need it for Halloween.

So, the obvious choice for Jack was a monkey. Very fitting. Kate took that as her opportunity to boss him around.

I love Halloween night... all the preparations and getting the kids ready. We trick or treated in our neighborhood, but then Kate wanted to go back and hand out candy. She liked that the best. People would come up and she would say, "What would you like?" before they even knew what we had. ha!

We had a little fire in the fire pit out front and ate chili, and ended the night with s'mores. It was a lot of fun.

Both kids crashed big time that night!!! That's the sign of a good time had by all.
