Jack Ryan

Jack Ryan Roskowske made his debut at 4:05 p.m. on Friday, January 29th. He weighed in at 8 lbs. 2 oz., was 21 inches long, and has a full head of hair.

Everything went so smoothly with his delivery. We checked in, got my IV hooked up, got the monitor going... within 30 minutes or so. That part seemed to take forever when we were having Kate.

From there, things got rockin' and rollin' pretty quickly. I got an epidural before I had to feel any major pain, my doctor came by and broke my water (which really moved things along), and by about 3:50, I was ready push. My doctor got there around 3:55 and about ten minutes and three pushes later, Jack was born. It was easy peesy! And it was such a fun experience!!

We could tell he wasn't as huge as we thought he was going to be, but we were really surprised that he was only a little over 8 pounds. And, no one expected all that hair!!!

We had tons of visitors and it was so much fun.

Kate came in as Jack was in the warmer. She was so excited to see him. She watched him get his first bath. She was a little nervous about seeing me because I was in a hospital bed with an IV, blood pressure cuff, and I probably looked a little scary anyway! Soon, that passed and she jumped right up there with me.

She was thrilled when she was able to hold Jack for the first time.

She felt like such a big girl when she came up to the hospital each day. She would walk in and say, "Hey, big guy!"

Coming home with two kids was a little surreal, but we got into a pretty good groove.

Mark has been off all this week, which has been awesome. Kate has been doing really well, sleeping at her normal nap time, and staying all night in her bed (with the exception of one night). We have to remind her to be gentle with Baby Jack. She gets a little rough at times. She will cram his pacifier in his mouth and then pull it out really fast. Or poke him really hard, and then tell us she's just patting him. She wipes him down with a baby wipe (like all over his face) and tells me that he likes it. Poor guy.

But, she is really sweet with him, too. She says "See Bay Jack" when she wants to look at him and "Tate Wylee hode" when she wants to hold him. She kisses all over him and loves when he holds her finger. She loves all the visitors that we have been having.

Jack is such a good baby. He is very laid back. Let's hope he stays that way. He looks just like Mark, so hopefully he will have his laid back personality, as well.

It's quite an adjustment to go from giving Kate all the attention to dividing it. Especially now, when Jack requires so much from his mama.

Last night, I wanted to give Kate a bath because I hadn't spent a whole lot of time with her. She only wanted Daddy to do it, so she said "No like Mommy". Ugh... it broke my heart. In the end, I gave her a bath and we had fun (and a big talk about how it hurts my feelings when you say you don't like Mommy).

We are just enjoying our little family and loving on Baby Jack. He's such a little sweetie.
