Miss Kate

Kate has become the sweetest little thing.  Age four has been good to us so far! She is so fun to be around.  She can carry on a great conversation and is so dramatic and expressive.

I love the things that come out of her mouth.

She's still in love with Justin Bieber (the "Biebs", as we call him around here).  I caught her kissing his poster at Walgreens.  I keep telling her she's too young to have a crush on Justin Bieber... or anyone for that matter!

In the car, she told me, "I'm thinking of Justin Bieber and tears are about to come down my face."  Give me a break!

She is soooo good at saying sweet things and getting really sappy (which I don't mind AT ALL).  She turned on her sweet voice the other day and told me, "You are the best mommy today... and everyday!"

She was telling me why she loved me and she said it's because I take them on lots of fun adventures. Sometimes, the fun adventure is to Target, but she thinks it's fun anyway. ha!

One day, we just NEEDED to get out of the house.  We drove through Sonic during Happy Hour and got slushies for the kids and a Diet Coke for me, and then I asked the kids if they wanted to go for a drive.  Kate asked if she could be the one that decided if we went left or right and I figured, why not?  So, we drove out Highway 50 and started our "adventure".  We passed cows and horses, much to Jack's delight.  We saw barns and silos and drove through a couple little towns.  Kate rolled down her window and sung at the top of her lungs.  We ended up in Rosebud, which is a ways away from Union. Kate kept saying, "keep going, keep going".  If I had listened to her, we would have been in Jeff City in no time. We finally headed back home, and I looked back and both kids were snoozing away.

She is such a good big sister.  She has been really good about sharing with Jack (even though he doesn't quite understand that HE needs to share, too).

We went to The Magic House a few weeks ago and she was running ahead of me on the big porch.  I told her to stop at the end of the porch, but she went down the steps anyway, was jumping around, and fell and skinned her elbow.  For the next few days, every time she would look at the scrape, she said, "I'm so sorry.  I should have listened."  Lesson learned.

We were leaving to go somewhere and we were running late (as usual) and I was frustrated about how hard it was to get out of the house that day.  Kate asked if I was mad and I told her I wasn't, but that I just needed them to cooperate when we are trying to leave to go somewhere.  She said, "I'm sorry, Mommy.  I should have cooperated.  I just forgot to.  I'm so sorry, Mommy."

She and Jack play this game where Jack is a baby and he crawls around and lets Kate hold him.  She was being kind of rough while holding him in the chair and I said, "I think you are breaking your baby in half."  She replied, "He's not my baby.  He's my darling."

Whenever we go through the bank, both she and Jack start asking for suckers (Jack just says "uck... uck... but, he knows that going to the bank sometimes means a sucker).  One day, the lady didn't give us a sucker.  We were driving away and Kate asked if we got any.  I said, "No, sorry, not today."  She crossed her arms and said, "SHE needs to be sorry!!" It was hilarious.

One day she asked me, "Where does the rain go when it's done raining?"  I did my best to explain the whole water cycle thing on her level.  I told her about evaporation and how you can't see that happening. She said, "Like God.  We can't see God."  I said, "That's right", and I was really proud of her for making that connection.  Then she added, "and like gnats.  They are really small and you can't really see those either."  Haha!

One day while driving, I smelled a skunk.  Kate must have smelled it at the same time because she said, "Is there a pig farm around here?"  I said, "No, it's a skunk." She said, "Oh no! Please don't let it spray our car.  Is our car going to have to take a bath in tomato juice???"

She tells these big elaborate stories with lots of wide eyed excitement and hand movement.  We were on our way to Uncle Scott's and she was telling me about the time she, Maddie, and Lilly saw a snake.  She said, "Lilly was TERRIFIED.  But then, she got over it."

One of her stories was about Brad.  She said, "Brad is my boyfriend.  I think we met when I was three.  It's so great... we have coffee talk.  You can drink anything when you have coffee talk.  I just have water."

LL3N0182.jpg

She sings ALL day long.  She loves Taylor Swift.  We watched a behind the scenes show on Netflix about Taylor Swift's tour.  Kate was enthralled.  She would get her microphone and sing along with the songs.  She sings Love Story... "it's a lotta story, baby just say yes."  :)

LL3N0181.jpg

She sings Home on the Range, "where the deer and the cantaloupe play".

We went for a long walk on a trail.  It was the first time she rode her bike anywhere other than the neighborhood, and I wasn't sure how she would do (as in, I packed some bandaids in the stroller).  I had Jack in the stroller and I figured we would go as far as she wanted to.  I seriously thought she wouldn't last that long, but we went for at least a couple of miles.  It was nice and flat, so she did awesome.  But, it was HOT.  She said, "I've been piddling (pedaling..haha!) so fast, I'm so sweating hot."

She is a JOY to have around.  She makes every day so fun!
