... since I posted a thing on here. December was truly a whirlwind.
Our sweet Poppy (Mark's grandpa) spent the whole month in the ICU. We lost him on Christmas Eve morning. It still seems very surreal. Mark wrote his thoughts and memories on a little site he created... http://harveymoore.com/ We will miss him so very much.
In between Mark going up to the hospital, us worrying about Poppy, and trying to explain things to Kate, we tried to squeeze in as much Christmas fun as possible. It was important to us to help make things feel as normal and happy as possible for the kids even though we were feeling really sad.
I was finishing up an eight week long subbing position for a friend who was on maternity leave. I DO NOT miss working five days a week!
We had Mark's birthday, a baby shower for Brad and Vicky, we had Christmas parties, Mark and the kids went through a week where they were really sick... like I said, a whirlwind. I am so behind, I have no idea where to even start on posting pictures.
So, let's pretend that it's not almost a month after Christmas, okay? And I'll just start from the beginning...
We were able to squeeze in a lot of fun in the midst of the December chaos.
I made a December bucket list and we checked off I think all but one thing, due to Kate being sick.
Kate REALLY enjoyed decorating the house for Christmas this year.
We baked cookies for us and the neighbors.
We made little elf donuts (thanks to pinterest) to set out on Christmas Eve.
We made a gingerbread house. I'm SO thankful Christmas only comes around once a year. I always forget how hard those are and then swear that I am NOT doing one the next year. But, you know, the next Christmas rolls around and I have forgotten all the turmoil of the gingerbread house.
We made fun gifts for Kate's preschool teachers and neighbors.
Kate made "Reindeer Food" for the little girls in her gymnastics class.
We made a trip to Santa's Magical Kingdom.
Kate had her preschool party and got to give her letter to Santa.
We were visited by our trusty friend, Mac, our Elf on the Shelf. Kate renamed him this year. His old name was Alice and this year, she realized that it wasn't quite fitting.
I was surprised at how excited she was about the elf this year. Every morning, she woke up anxious to see where he was. Honestly, the idea of an elf running around your house causing mischief while you sleep and then flying to Santa only to return the next morning, seems a little creepy to me. But, she liked it. Jack doesn't have an opinion. He did touch the elf A LOT, which according to the book, causes him to "lose his magic". I guess Kate didn't pay attention to that part of the story.
Ok, I'm going to say that about sums up the December festivities. Onto Christmas Eve tomorrow...
